On top of this list was eating fiber. Fiber helps regulate bowel movements, improves digestion, and prevents colon cancer. Good sources of fiber are berries, flax and chia seeds. You can also supplement with a fiber powder or gummies, and be sure to drink lots of water with it.
Next on the list, lots of protein, around 20 grams per meal.
Vitamin D is also a biggie. It helps muscles, immunity and bones. Good sources are fatty fish, egg yolks, fish liver oil, mushrooms, and fortified dairy.
Again, the importance of lots of water. Don’t wait till your thirsty, and try to get at least 48 oz. daily.
To improve heart health; eat lots of whole, plant based foods. The Mediteranian diet is a great option. Remember also to take time to enjoy yourself, and take care of your mental health.
Exercise is also important, even in modest amounts. It improves blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, regulates blood sugar, controls weight, reduces stress, reduces inflammation, increases energy and stamina, improves sleep, cognitive ability, joint health, balance, mobility, immunity…need I say more? Doctors recommend a minimum of 150 minutes per week.
Also, stop smoking, and moderate your alcohol intake.
Remember, acupuncture is great for reducing stress. It also moderates the immune system to reduce inflammation, with the added benefit of being a drug free way to reduce pain.
